Annual Concert at Shirland Village hall

Date: 26/10/2024
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

With apologies to
THE EREWASH PHOENIX CHOIR

Shirland Village Hall is our venue for this year’s annual concert which we dedicate to our wonderful friend and colleague Winston ‘Stan’ Green who, sadly, passed to the heavenly choir in April. Stan is testament to the power of singing, which he valued so greatly. Stan suffered ill health for some years, but always found a smile provided he could keep singing, and each concert was his goal for survival. Sadly, the concert in February of this year was to be his last, but we were all so delighted to see him singing proudly throughout.
Stan was also a long standing and dedicated Rotarian and was known and respected by many people of Alfreton.
Stan’s family were very grateful for the support offered by Treetops Hospice during his final weeks, and we are delighted to donate the proceeds of the concert to their benefit. Please help us to support this ongoing work.

We are pleased to, again, welcome Sara Louisa Parry to perform at our concert. Sara is a professional singer and music teacher and appears in many National and International venues. A brief introduction: –
Derbyshire born singer, Sara Louisa Parry, studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Her first professional job was in the cast of Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre, Manchester and toured with the show to Dublin and Edinburgh. She was also a member of the cast in the 10th Anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1995. Other credits include Phantom of the Opera (Ensemble) London. Evita (Ensemble) Spektrum Theatre Oslo, Grease (Miss Lynch) UK tour. Oliver! (Widow Corney), Rodgers and
Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Fairy Godmother), Wind in The Willows (Mrs Otter) Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells. Sara Louisa is now based in London, combining a
busy teaching practice with performing, regularly touring the UK with the Neil Sedaka tribute show, ‘Oh! Carol’.
We greatly look forward to her performance for us all this evening.

We also look forward to hearing the Erewash Phoenix Choir which I mistakenly introduced as the Phoenix Ladies Choir. I believe it true that it is a lady’s choir, (see left) although it does not appear to be requisite. I understand they have recently partied to celebrate 20 years together, having begun when a few friends met in a family living room. Earlier this year, the choir appointed our own Musical Director, Terry Clay, to lead them and help them develop their repertoire and skills. We look forward to the result.

Perhaps I should mention that the Alfreton Male Voice Choir, under the Directorship of Mr Terry Clay and expertly accompanied by Lisa Smith, will also be giving their all to entertain, amuse and delight. We look forward to seeing you there.

There are many ways to obtain tickets, and we hope you will join us for what promises to be a very varied and entertaining evening.
