Choir AGM 8th February
Last night was the choirs AGM. Members gathered to reflect on last year and elect officers for the coming one.
Chairman Derrick Hesketh opened by thanking everyone in the choir, whether holding office or just being a choir member, for their contribution to a very successful and rewarding year. Unfortunately, it was officially announced that Brian Thornton, who has been our treasurer for some years and kept things in fine order, has been forced to relinquish the position due to ill health; we all send our best wishes to Brian and hope to see him when he feels able. Derrick was pleased to announce that Michael Wilcockson has agreed to take on the position of treasurer and we wish him ‘balanced books and fiscal fun’. Special thanks were given to our Secretary, Paul Stone, who, for the last few months, has been tasked with standing in as treasurer. This has been alongside his secretarial roll, and his dedication is much appreciated.
We heard from our President, Mr George Curley. George has been our president for 31 years and he graciously accepted the nomination for the 32nd. George is, whenever possible, attendant at the choir’s engagements and supports us tirelessly; we thank him sincerely for his continued acceptance of the roll.
All officers from this year were elected to continue through 2018.
We were informed that Harry Wall, a very long standing member of the bass section, is suffering from ill health and, along with caring responsibilities, finds it difficult to attend. It was unanimously agreed to bestow Life Membership on Harry and Brian Thornton and we hope to see them whenever they can manage it.
The meeting closed at 7.30 and we all had a jolly good sing before retiring for refreshment.
