Civic Service at Watchorn Church, Alfreton

On Sunday 22nd September, the choir was honoured to support the Civic Service hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor John Walker and Mrs. Angela Walker. The service was led by Reverend John Peters who gave a very interesting address to the assembled  dignitaries. The choir, with Lisa on keyboard, entertained with ‘With a Voice of Singing’ and ‘How Great Thou Art ‘  before joining the congregation in ‘Make me a channel of your peace’ . After prayers, readings and collection we sang the John Rutter piece ‘For the Beauty of the Earth ‘ followed by ‘You Raise Me Up.’

Not wishing to embarrass organist Mr. John Wing, I can not help but mention the final programme piece printed in the programme ‘I Vow to Thee my Country’ which caused great consternation when he played ‘Jerusalem’. The choir stepped up to the mark and managed to accompany the bemused congregation with the correct words.

After closing with The National Anthem we were invited to join the Mayor and Mayoress  refreshments to end a very enjoyable afternoon.
