The Choir

The idea of a Male Voice Choir may conjure up an image which seems a little dated. Would it be better to call it a Male Voice Community Choir, the idea of community having a more inclusive feel.
Joining a choir is a big thing to do and we understand that the first step is a little daunting; it took one of my (yet to be) choir colleagues several weeks to persuade me to come along to practice, even though I had experience of being in a choir (when I was singing treble). When I could think of no more excuses, I went to practice with Alfreton Male Voice Choir at Palmer Morewood Social Club, and I was hooked. Apart from the wonderful experience of singing, the great atmosphere and making new friends it also turned out to be great fun.
, The ChoirThere will always be a space, why not fill it? Alfreton Male Voice ‘Community’ Choir is there to give you the opportunity to grow your skills and confidence to perform in front of an appreciative audience. For the less experienced singer, we support your individual growth to allow you to understand, interpret and experience the music in a way which will surprise even you.

Common objections: –
1) I can’t sing.  With a little guidance and support you will be surprised what you can do. We help you develop the skill to become a singer; if you need help reading music then help is at hand, if you are willing to learn.

2) I don’t have time.  We practice for 2 hours each Thursday throughout the year and perform concerts to order. The amount of effort is up to you and your commitment to your performance.

3) Is it expensive?  We don’ t think so. It is necessary to pay professional fees to support our learning and concert appearances and to support the purchase of music, etc. Subscriptions can pe paid quarterly or monthly by BACS (which is £12.00).

4) I don’t like singing in public. You are part of a team of people who will support you and encourage you to overcome your concerns; the thrill you get from contributing to that team will soon have you wanting more.

5) Do I have to commit to joining?  No, we understand that you have to feel comfortable with your decision so join us so we allow the first 3 months to be on a trial basis (i.e. no subs to pay). You will be provided with the music currently being used but this must be returned in the unlikely event you decide not to continue.
